Although quite a rare plant, the Hoodia cactus has become very well-known in a comparatively short space of time and it has won over quite a few skeptics with it’s ability to control weight. Now, a number of natural dietary products claim to use Hoodia as the weight loss component. While you may have heard the name, do you know anything about this extraordinary and rare plant?

Hoodia

There are in fact 13 species of this cactus, however only one particular variety is used as an appetite suppressant. It is called Hoodia Gordonii and is located in the deserts of South Africa. This marvel plant has caused a stir and is greatly coveted, in fact no other natural product has ever been found that is as effective at hindering hunger pangs.

Scientists genuinely investigated the cactus plant in depth over a period of years employing volunteers to test its potency. For example some members of a BBC team went on a one day tour without eating or drinking, only consuming a Hoodia leaf and declared they felt neither thirst nor hunger for the entire day.

Unlike quite a few other appetite suppressants, Hoodia weight loss products do not have any negative effects. Users also have the added benefit of knowing that they won’t feel tired while they are using it as it supplies the proper amount of energy and reduces the desire to eat. Still, while it is being taken, the user should still drink plenty of fluids and eat a healthy diet. The idea of using the Hoodia weight loss tablets on a regular basis is only to reduce the amount of food you usually consume and will not benefit you if you eat so little that you end up starving yourself. Ideally, this is how Hoodia should be used, especially in obese people, only to control how much they eat.

Because of the rarity of this plant, making weight loss tablets or products with infusions from this cactus is high-priced. In many areas where a product is expensive, fake Hoodia weight loss pills and other supplements allegedly incorporating the plant, are readily accessible on the internet. Be warned if you find them at very low prices, it is unlikely to be the actual product. Be prepared to pay a premium for any product incorporating Hoodia as it is believed to be the best natural appetite suppressant in the world, so avoid those offers that appear to be ‘too good to be true’.

If people did not drink so much alcohol, there would not be such a huge market for hangover cures. Today, a wealth of hangover cures is on offer and the odds are pretty good that anyone seeking a hangover cure is not likely to refuse. Don’t be fooled, the excess alcohol actually poisons the body and a hangover cure must eliminate all of the problems associated with this.

Hangover Cures

It is also worth noting that not all drinks affect you in the same way and this is as a result of impurities in the alcohol. It’s the concentration of these impurities that also helps determine how quickly you will become drunk and, more than likely, how bad your hangover will be. Colored spirits like Cognac and Whisky have more impurities than clear drinks like Gin and Vodka for example as these drinks have been through a filtration process.

If we were all to be honest though, if we didn’t drink too much, hangover cures would not be necessary. This may also be because of two other factors which are consuming too much alcohol in a very short space of time before the body can full process it or often because people drink on an empty stomach but whatever the reason, it is our choice to do this. It is well known that if you drink slowly, the body is able to process the alcohol and other toxins before they get to a level that gets us drunk. But because very few people adhere to a few simple drinking rules, the world is full of hangover cures. Some of these are quite ludicrous and now, talking about hangover cures has become a common topic in bars around the world. But discovering the best cure for a hangover is still a long way off, apart from not drinking of course.

Some may disagree but if you continue to drink, the alcohol will gradually start having it’s dehydrating effect and the dreaded hangover will follow. Therefore, it’s important to re-hydrate your body before you go to sleep, although this is easier said than done. Some swear by drinking a pint of water before sleep as well as taking a couple of headache tablets and drinking a glass of orange juice in the morning as it puts back some of the lost vitamin C. Although this actually works quite well, generally speaking, hangover cures becomes less effective as you age when often nothing works except time.

A recent addition to the hangover cure library was eating bananas as they contain potassium and fructose, just two of the minerals lost during drink. Fortunately, bananas contain a natural antacid to help with the sick feeling, and because they are high in magnesium they can help relax those pounding blood vessels that cause the famous hangover headache.

Some proclaim that the ultimate hangover cure is the ‘Bloody Mary’ which is simply vodka and orange juice with a few other ingredients but many people cannot face alcohol with a hangover. Ultimately, saying ‘no’ is probably the best way to reduce the need of a hangover cure!
